ASKING GOD By Major.Frank Materu
Key Verse:
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3
Introduction:
God, the Living One, holds everything we need.
When we seek Him and desire His guidance, He reveals the way.
Sadly, in today’s generation, many do not seek God’s face.
Instead, they turn to the false comforts of “Egypt” and “Sodom,” forsaking the true God and embracing the corrupt and defiled.
This message calls us to return to God, to inquire of Him for guidance, and to trust His perfect will.
Only then can we avoid the pitfalls of relying on worldly counsel that leads to destruction.
Turning Away from God:
1. Seeking Counsel Elsewhere
– Many have replaced God’s wisdom with the flawed advice of worldly systems.
2. Rejecting God’s Commands
– Instead of walking in obedience, people pursue their desires, leading to trouble and hardship.
3. Forsaking the Source of Life
– By abandoning God, people bring upon themselves spiritual poverty and suffering.
Scripture Reference:
Proverbs 14:12
"There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death."
God’s Desire for His People:
God does not hide from those who seek Him with all their hearts:
He Reveals His Will
– To those who walk uprightly and obey His commands.
He Provides Guidance
– To those who humble themselves and trust in Him.
He Offers Blessings
– To those who turn to Him instead of the world.
Unfortunately, many who claim to belong to God reject His authority, choosing disobedience over submission.
Scripture Reference:
Isaiah 55:67
"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them."
The Consequences of Disobedience
Rejecting God leads to;
1. Spiritual Bondage :
– Becoming enslaved to sin, worldly systems, and personal desires.
2. Separation from God:
– A gradual drift away from His presence and guidance.
3. SelfDestruction:
– Choosing a path that leads to death instead of life.
A Reminder:
God desires to lead His people to freedom and fulfillment, but disobedience brings unnecessary suffering.
Scripture Reference:
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
"I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him."
God’s Plan for His peopl:
From the beginning, God has had good plans for His people.
Deliverance from Bondag:
– He delivered Israel from Egypt, not to let them perish in the wilderness, but to bring them to the Promised Land.
Provision for Every Need:
– God provides everything necessary for those who trust in Him.
A Call to Trust:
– God’s promises are sure, but they require faith and obedience.
Unfortunately, like the Israelites, many today fail to trust God and instead rebel, bringing destruction upon themselves.
Scripture Reference:
Numbers 14:11
"The Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them?’"
The Danger of Turning Away:
When God saves a person, He does so with the intention of leading them into a life of fullness and purpose.
However, many receive His initial blessings and then turn against Him, plotting their own paths.
Choosing Their Own Way:
– Rejecting God’s direction and seeking personal desires.
Missing Out on the Promised Land
– Like the Israelites, failing to enter God’s rest due to unbelief.
Bringing Judgment Upon Themselves.
– By choosing rebellion, they invite spiritual and physical ruin.
Scripture Reference:
Hebrews 3:1214
"See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness."
God’s Promises Still Stand
Despite human rebellion, God’s promises remain.
He has prepared a “Canaan” for His people—a place of victory and abundance.
Those who trust and obey Him will inherit His blessings, while those who rebel will face the consequences of their choices.
Scripture Reference:
Psalm 84:11
"For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless."
Conclusion:
God is good, and His plans for His people are perfect.
Yet, in every generation, He sees His people turn away, choosing destruction instead of life.
This is a call to:
Seek God
– Make Him the source of all counsel and direction.
Obey His Commands
– Trust His ways, even when they are difficult.
Trust His Plan – Believe in His goodness and faithfulness to provide.
Choose today to inquire of God and walk in His ways.
He is the God of all good things, and He is ready to reveal His blessings to those who seek Him with their whole heart.
