Cannot I Regather When I Please? By Major Frank Materu

Key Bible Scripture

“I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety. They will be my people, and I will be their God.”

– Jeremiah 32:37-38 (NIV)

“The Lord will gather the outcasts of Israel. He will gather others to them besides those already gathered.”

– Isaiah 56:8 (ESV)

Introduction

God, in His infinite power and wisdom, has the ability to heal, restore, and regather His people, no matter how broken or scattered they may be. While humans often seek solutions through worldly means, true restoration comes only through Him. This teaching serves as a reminder that God's timing, wisdom, and mercy are perfect, and His desire is to regather His people, heal their wounds, and bring them into the fullness of His Kingdom.

God’s Unlimited Power to Heal and Regather

God’s capacity to restore broken lives is unmatched. While the world may offer temporary solutions, only God can heal the wounds of the heart and remove the fear and despair caused by sin and oppression.

Scripture Reference: Jeremiah 30:17

“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’”

  1. God restores what has been broken.
  2. He gathers His people into unity under His care.
  3. He removes fear and replaces it with joy.

Remaining Faithful Amidst Oppression

The path of a believer is often marked by trials and persecution. Those who remain steadfast in their faith despite these challenges will be rewarded. God’s people are not abandoned to the mercy of the wicked but are protected and strengthened by Him.

Scripture Reference: John 15:19

“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”

God’s Call to Repentance and Restoration

Despite the rebellion of some, God continues to call His people back to Him. He fills the gaps left by those who refuse to return, raising up new men and women who desire to serve Him and be part of His Kingdom.

Scripture Reference: Isaiah 43:6-7

“I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth—everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

God’s Mercy Over Bitterness and Vengeance

Bitterness and resentment over past wrongs hinder spiritual growth. God calls His people to leave vengeance to Him and instead focus on gratitude for His mercy and faithfulness.

Scripture Reference: Romans 12:19

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

Summary

God is the ultimate restorer and regatherer. He is capable of healing even the deepest wounds and bringing His people into unity and safety. While the world’s methods may fail, God’s ways are perfect. Faithfulness amidst trials is rewarded, and bitterness must be replaced with trust in God’s mercy. His call to repentance remains open to all who are willing to listen and obey.
