REBELLIOUS CHRISTIANS TOXIC TO THE NATION By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." (James 3:17 NIV)

Introduction:
In today's world, the spiritual health of a nation often reflects the moral and ethical state of its people. When Christians—those entrusted to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth—abandon their calling, the nation suffers. This message highlights the consequences of rebellion within the Church and its ripple effects on society. When Christians allow themselves to be seduced by worldly pleasures and false doctrines, they lose their purity and become agents of toxicity, rather than healing and righteousness.
This teaching challenges us to return to the truth, repent of our spiritual negligence, and become vessels of God’s transformative power. It underscores the need for holiness, repentance, and a sober commitment to live according to God’s Word in a perverse and toxic generation.

The Call to Holiness and Purity
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." (Matthew 5:13 NIV)
God has called His people to a life of holiness and purity, setting them apart as examples of His righteousness. However, when Christians compromise their values and indulge in worldly vanities, they lose their effectiveness. Instead of preserving and enhancing the spiritual and moral fabric of society, they contribute to its decay.

The Danger of False Love and Spiritual Drunkenness
"Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, who acquit the guilty for a bribe but deny justice to the innocent." (Isaiah 5:22-23 NIV)
False love and spiritual intoxication are some of the most significant dangers facing Christians today. Many have exchanged the truth of God’s Word for sugary messages of false grace and indulgence. They drink deeply from the cup of worldliness, becoming addicted to a superficial and toxic spirituality that leads to destruction.

God’s Wrath: A Call to Sobriety
"See, the Lord is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire." (Isaiah 66:15 NIV)
God’s judgment is not only a punishment but also an act of mercy, designed to wake His people from their spiritual slumber. Through His wrath, God brings sobriety, calling believers to repent and turn away from the toxins of sin. He desires a remnant who will humble themselves, embrace correction, and return to Him with sincerity.

The Consequences of Spiritual Rebellion
"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." (Galatians 6:7 NIV)
Rebellion against God leads to spiritual and moral decay, not just for individuals but for entire communities and nations. Toxic Christians poison society with hypocrisy, false teachings, and compromised values, causing even unbelievers to stumble. The consequences are far-reaching, leading to judgment and, ultimately, eternal separation from God.

A Call to Repentance and Restoration
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)
Repentance is the first step toward restoration. God longs to cleanse His people from the toxins of sin and restore them to their rightful place as ambassadors of His kingdom. This requires humility, prayer, and a sincere commitment to live according to His Word.

Summary:
The spiritual toxicity within the Church has grave consequences for society, leading to moral decay, compromised values, and widespread rebellion against God. Christians are called to be agents of change, not contributors to corruption. This teaching underscores the urgent need for holiness, repentance, and a return to God’s truth.

Rebellious Christians are toxic to the nation, but there is hope for restoration. God, in His mercy, extends an invitation to repent and be renewed. As we turn away from falsehood and embrace the truth, we can reclaim our role as the salt and light of the earth.
